Meet Human Needs
In Matthew 25, Jesus taught that when we help those who are in need, it is as if we are helping Jesus himself. We know that needs come in many forms: physical, financial, spiritual, and emotional. While none of us can meet all the world’s needs, we are committed to helping meet the needs of our neighbors – locally and across the globe as God leads us. There are many ways that you can get involved and further the mission of our ministry partners listed below. Contact us if you would like help finding your best fit.
Our food pantry serves clients in Hanahan and nearby areas of North Charleston. The pantry is supported through the generosity of the congregation but we welcome shelf stable food and monetary donations from the community. Please contact Carolyn Lackey, Food Pantry Coordinator, or the church office to help or to become a food pantry client.
Partnering with the City of Hanahan Police Department, we provide HPD with food bags for families in crisis in addition to special bags for homeless persons in our community.
Please see our Weekly Email Update for the items needed most each month.
Each food pantry family receives a box of shelf stable ingredients needed for a special holiday meal along with some holiday treats. The family also receives a gift card to purchase meat and other perishables to complete their holiday dinner.
Using financial contributions from the congregation, the Mission and Outreach committee prepares special gift bags for the children of our food pantry families. In the past the children have received pajamas, socks, underwear, books, fleece throws and a game for the whole family to enjoy.
Each November Cub Scout Pack 409 holds a food drive in Hanahan to help stock the YPPC Food Pantry.
Each August, our church campus serves as a distribution site for Hands of Christ giving each child school clothing, socks and underwear, school supplies, books and Bibles to help get them ready for the new school year.
Presbyterian Journey meets college students where they are and begins conversations around faith, purpose and the meaning of life at The Citadel and through EmpowHer at the College of Charleston. Yeamans Park supports these ministries financially and with quarterly meals.
Each Friday morning representatives of Yeamans Park PC deliver a hot nutritious meal, make a quick safety check and provide a much-needed human connection to our clients in North Charleston and Hanahan.
Yeamans Park PC provides support for a child in the Mission on the Move After School program in Honduras. Each child in the after school program receives homework assistance, Christian education, dental care, and family support.
Since 1875, Thornwell in Clinton, SC, has been committed to finding solutions to heal, strengthen, and empower children and families through residential care and other programs. Yeamans Park PC supports the work of Thornwell financially with a special offering each November.
When you give to the Christmas Joy Offering, you honor God’s gift of Jesus Christ and you provide assistance to current and retired church workers in need and you support the development of future leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges who are equipping communities of color.
