Meet Our Pastor & Staff

Rev. Cameron Smith

YPPC Pastor

Rev. Smith, or Cameron, as she is more commonly known, was installed as our pastor in October of 2021. She is a child of the Lowcountry and loves the flora and fauna of our salty patch of earth. Her early years were spent on Yonges Island before moving to West Ashley. She graduated from College of Charleston with a BA in Spanish, and then moved to James Island. After graduating from Erskine Theological Seminary in 2012, Cameron was ordained as the first Associate Pastor to serve James Island Presbyterian Church. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. One of her greatest joys in ministry is being able to connect with individuals and groups from different backgrounds around God’s Word. She loves to celebrate everyone’s unique gifts and to explore God’s Word and world in community. She and her husband, Jason, have four boys and a small zoo of pets.

After graduating from Catawba College with a BA in Physical Education she moved to Charleston to teach at Remount Road Elementary School. She was asked by a friend at Remount Road to help teach Bible school at Yeamans Park and several years later she and her family became members. She joined the choir and handbell choir, was on a Pastor Search Committee, served on the Session, taught Sunday school, moderated several committees, helped with the children and youth, and then began working as the Director of Christian Education. One of her favorite places to go is the Montreat Music and Worship Conference in Montreat, NC which she first attended in 1962 as a 7th grader. She and her husband, Stan, have 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and many 4-legged creatures!

Michael Varnadore

Music Director/Organist

Michael began working as part-time Music Director and Organist in 2022. He feels called to lead and grow our music ministry at YPPC. Michael is a lifelong resident of the Charleston area. In addition to playing piano and pipe organ, he plays the Carillon. The Carillon is a collection of huge bells that reside in a tall tower on the Campus of the Citadel. His first role as a Church musician was at age 12. By default, he was the pianist at a rural Church near Moncks Corner. He had just started to play the piano a few years prior. They sang any 3 hymns that he could learn before the next Sunday service. He played there through high school. His sister, Denise, took over at that point and still plays there today. Currently his week is balanced between his role as organist at the Summerall Chapel and his work as a certified piano tuner.
