Meet Our Pastor & Staff

Rev. Cameron Smith

YPPC Pastor

Rev. Smith, or Cameron, as she is more commonly known, was installed as our pastor in October of 2021. She is a child of the Lowcountry and loves the flora and fauna of our salty patch of earth. Her early years were spent on Yonges Island before moving to West Ashley. She graduated from College of Charleston with a BA in Spanish, and then moved to James Island. After graduating from Erskine Theological Seminary in 2012, Cameron was ordained as the first Associate Pastor to serve James Island Presbyterian Church. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. One of her greatest joys in ministry is being able to connect with individuals and groups from different backgrounds around God’s Word. She loves to celebrate everyone’s unique gifts and to explore God’s Word and world in community. She and her husband, Jason, have four boys and a small zoo of pets.

Lynn Mercer

Martha Trussell

Martha has served Yeamans Park in several different positions since June of 1999. She grew up in Gastonia, N. C. and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she participated in Sunday school, choir, handbells, and youth group. After graduating from Catawba College with a BA in Physical Education she moved to Charleston to teach at Remount Road Elementary School. She was asked by a friend at Remount Road to help teach Bible school at Yeamans Park and several years later she and her family became members. She joined the choir and handbell choir, was on a Pastor Search Committee, served on the Session, taught Sunday school, moderated several committees, helped with the children and youth, and then began working as the Director of Christian Education. One of her favorite places to go is the Montreat Music and Worship Conference in Montreat, NC which she first attended in 1962 as a 7th grader. She and her husband, Stan, have 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and many 4-legged creatures!

Laurel Jean Walden

Organist

Originally from central Illinois, Laurel Jean Walden took up her formal studies of organ, piano and vocal music at the ripe old age of five. She first answered God's call to music ministry at age fourteen, and celebrates over thirty years offering God's message in song. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States, leading and presenting for Worship services, camps, retreats and other church events across denominational boundaries, serving alongside people of all ages, on all walks of life.

In 2008, Laurel followed God's calling to the Lowcountry as a peer mentor and advocate for her fellow members of the blind community who were grossly underserved. She organized and hosted an accessible Vacation Bible School for blind youth in which one child was led to the waters of Baptism and many others were brought closer to God. She also served on the founding committee for South Carolina's only Christian outreach center for the blind, where she continues to volunteer as needed.

A professionally trained keyboardist, vocalist, composer and lyricist, Laurel enjoys geeking out with computer technology. In 2021, she turned her latest album production "Living That Story" into a cantata, independently scoring the printed music notation for choir, piano, cello, oboe and handbells. She comes to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church with a deep love and enthusiasm for the music that brings glory to God, for Jesus and for His church.
