From the Pastor

Dear Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church Family:

Well…..this will be my farewell  newsletter but I’m definitely not saying “goodbye”, but rather –  “see you later”.  When Elder Eddie Rogers called me last year and asked if I would consider being your interim minister until (God) and the Pulpit Nominating Committee called your next full time installed pastor,  I was indeed flattered, a bit overwhelmed, and just a tad nervous.  I had never had to prepare and preach a sermon weekly which I have been privileged to do here for the past eight months. Previously I had only filled in periodically for different small churches in Virginia.   God says he doesn’t call the equipped but equips the called and that he did!  I found out how much I truly enjoyed preparing and delivering a weekly sermon and must say I will miss that.  But more than that I will miss seeing all of you every Sunday.  Greg and I will return “soon and often” as we are able, as I have begun another “interim” position back at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church (where I retired 5 years ago).  It is great to see old friends there, but I will carry the new friends I have made here at Yeamans Park in my heart.  You all have been so gracious and accepting of me and I know you will be even more so to Cameron, your new full-time minister!

I have known Cameron through the Presbytery for many years and I know you will love her and she will love you!  It is a “match made in heaven”!

Many thanks to the Staff (especially Lynn M. and Martha T.), and to the Session (especially your clerk, Mary Quinney) for guiding me along this time together.  To you the members – thank you for your graciousness, your welcoming spirit and acceptance of me for such a time as this!

Looking forward to following the ministries of Yeamans Park as you and Pastor Cameron move into the future together doing God’s work!

Grace, Peace, and much Love,

Pastor Mary

Hands of Christ

The Hands of Christ order forms have been sent to our Partner Schools! Each school can submit up to 60 names, half girls and half boys. We will contact our schools and encourage them to complete the forms as quickly as possible. Once Mr. Frye at Westminster Presbyterian receives an order, the Operations Team will pack the clothing in bags, one bag per child. Each child will also receive a bag of grade appropriate school supplies, which we will supply.

If anyone would like to help with packing the clothing bags for our Partner Schools or helping with packaging the school supplies, please see Carolyn Lackey. Once the order for one of our schools is complete, the Operations Team will contact our church to arrange with the school for delivery. We would like to also take a bag or box of books to each school. (Please ask your family, friends, and neighbors to help with the donation of any new or gently-used books for children up to 8 th grade.) Books can be placed on the book cart outside of the Outreach Room.)

Thank you to everyone for your support of the School Supply Drive. If you would still like to donate, we are collecting the following: Composition Books (wide-rule), Crayons (24), Erasers (pink), Glue sticks, Markers (washable, broad tip), Pencils, Pens (blue), Rulers, Scissors (blunt), Spiral Notebooks (wide-rule). If you prefer someone to shop for you, checks can be designated for Hands of Christ.
