Reverend Cameron Smith is a child of the South Carolina Lowcountry and has enjoyed life in and around Charleston her entire life. She first felt called to full-time ministry while serving as an intern for Christian Education and Youth Ministry during her college years. She and her husband, Jason, were married in 2001. After graduating from College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, Cameron began serving James Island Presbyterian as the Director of Christian Education. While continuing in this ministry, she felt called to ordained ministry and pursued a Master of Divinity from Erskine Seminary. Cameron was ordained as a teaching elder in January of 2013 and installed as the first Associate Pastor for James Island Presbyterian. Cameron and Jason have four wild and wonderful boys, and they enjoy spending time exploring the Lowcountry together and gathering around the table with family and friends. Her greatest joy in ministry is helping to connect people to God and one another by leading opportunities for worship, Bible study, fellowship, and service. Over the past year, Cameron and Jason realized that God was calling them into a new phase of ministry after almost twenty years of serving God’s people on James Island. Cameron is excited to take the next step to serve as solo pastor/head of staff and use the skills that she developed while serving as an associate pastor: leading worship on Sundays, providing pastoral care, and helping the congregation to discern God’s call to shine the light of Christ in their unique community.
